Weekly overview:
Where has summer gone?

Fixing my hair, as always.

Following my previous blog, I’ve been trying to keep myself as busy as possible and away from indoors, my room and laptop. I have to say this was a success because since then I’ve been working, hanging out with friends and finding more beautiful places in my city.

A few days ago, I planned to go on a trip to enjoy the rare English sunshine somewhere high up – there are many of these places in the city I live in because of it being known to be very hilly. Last year after my exams, I went to a similar place but it was further away from the view of the city and more towards the greener areas. Being a fan of annual things, I wanted to do something similar but more towards the city.

Ended up here. Yeah, the view is breath-taking. I don’t know about you, but I am all in it for views.

As you can see, the sun wasn’t coming out, even threatened with some rain but it was a lovely walk with my boyfriend as always. He’s great, he even saved me from the angry dogs that were after us. 😂 Never a dull day! It looks like summer has officially finished though because it has just been raining and grey since this day.

Besides working and exploring my city like the tourist that I am when it’s not horrible weather – yesterday, I went to see the movie “Me Before You”. After being told about it by my friends and stumbling upon the trailer, I really wanted to watch it for weeks and is my type of film (romantic, sad films get me every time.)

I have to say I was a little disappointed. I think it has a really good story line with so much potential but how it was portrayed just wasn’t captivating to me, I felt bored half way through and I NEVER get bored during films!

I really liked the story, the actors (Hello Sam Claflin!) and music (Ed Sheeran will always have a place in my heart) but the film felt so slow-paced and sluggish. I’ve heard the book is really good and written well though so I’ll definitely have a read whilst listening to Photograph with a box of tissues and Ben and Jerrys.

Have you seen Me Before You yet? Is it summery where you’re at right now?

Where has summer gone?”

  1. Good for you for getting outside! I need to do more of that! Lovely pictures…so pretty!

I heard of that movie, but didn’t really catch my interest too much. I don’t watch a lot of movies anyway. XD

  2. I have not seen the movie Me Before You, but I know the plot of it and it really irks me that it sends a terrible message to those that actually have disability. It’s awful and as someone working in the healthcare field with those that may possibly have quadriplegia or paraplegia, it makes me angry when media sends the message that life “isn’t worth living with that disability.” Simply put, I’m boycotting it.

  3. I haven’t seen that movie yet, but those photos are gorgeous of you 😀 It is summery with rain almost all the time. Blah.

  4. That scenery is absolutely beautiful! 😀

I have heard a lot of mixed things about Me Before You. It’s not something that I would go out of my way to watch.

  5. It’s incredibly hot here in PH although it keeps on raining hard during nighttime which is ok i guess 😀 I havent seen that film yet or read that book but i have seen the trailer. They were really successful at making the film interesting on the trailer, now i’m having second thoughts if i should watch the film.I think I’ll just watch finding dory haha!

  6. I love exploring my city! Your city’s views are so pretty – I will definitely have to visit, some time 😀 Honestly, when I find an amazing view my mind gets blown. I literally have to stand there for 5 minutes, to take it all in. Then let out a deep breath that I didn’t realise I was holding, ha.

    Oh, English weather.

Yeah, I agree with you about the film. I love Emilia Clarke’s eyebrows, though – they are so freaking expressive. I can see why there is backlash on the film because of it portraying that the only thing to do when you have a disability is to die, HOWEVER as most films do it doesn’t capture the essence of the book. The book as soooo much more backstory, and you end up seeing why Will would want to end his life. Definitely recommend reading the book, because it changed my mind about the whole plot.

    Amazing photos!

  7. Beautiful photo! That place looks breathtakingly gorgeous! I’d totally go there to escape city life and commune with nature 😀

As much as I love Sam Claflin, I don’t think I can watch this film. The romance aspect already turns me off, and I read articles about how the film gives off a bad message about being disabled, and that it’s basically better for you to be dead than being disabled. :/ So I don’t think I’ll be watching it, unfortunately.

  8. I’ve seen the Snapchat story for Me Before You haha, but I haven’t seen it. Can’t say it’s really something I’d choose to see, especially at the cinema. And, after your review, I probably wouldn’t buy the DVD either.

It’s great that you’re getting out away from your laptop. I’ve had a week without Internet, which I’ve actually really enjoyed. It’s nice to read a book without thinking about checking Facebook, to be honest.

Hope you’re enjoying summer so far!

  9. Good to hear that you’re going out and about more often these days! I love the scenery from the hill! I’m sure it looks breath-taking at night too ;). The problem with some movies is that there are potential for the storyline to pop like crazy, but the director wasn’t as creative as they could be. I haven’t seen the movie yet. Though, it’s starting to get hot this week. Hello, summer!

  10. It’s great that you’re going out more and resisting the urge to just laze around indoors! I’m guilty of that, lol. Maybe I should try to do what you’re doing too 🙂

It’s still hot during the day where I live (when is it NOT hot in the Philippines anyway? XD) but I think the rainy season is coming because the weather gets unpredictable during late afternoon. I just try to be ready for anything.

I haven’t seen the movie Me Before You, but I don’t really watch a lot of movies. I think I would prefer reading the book 😀

  11. I love how you are trying to spend more time outdoors. I could really do with taking a leaf out of your book. Saying that though, I’m going on holiday in a few days and I’m planning on being outside all of the time!

I don’t think Me Before You is my type of film, but I have heard a lot of people say they were disappointed with it. So I’ll be sure to avoid it.

  12. That’s great that you’ve been spending more time outdoors and with friends! The place you went to is beautiful. That’s such a lovely view, and I like how there’s flowers there too.

Me Before You isn’t my type of movie, so I probably won’t be seeing it. I’ve also read articles about how poorly it portrays people with disabilities. It seems that a lot of people are offended by the movie =/

It’s very summery where I’m at though! We had a rainy season, but now it’s hot and summer most of the time.

  13. I love exploring my own area for nice views like this, but you don’t get that in Sydney. :/ It seems like in Europe it is so easy to get beautiful views. What am I doing in the southern hemisphere?!

I heard about Me Before You, and I wanted to read the book first but now I don’t really feel like seeing the movie. A disabled friend of mine found the movie offensive, like a pity party for the disabled. She said it was playing on disabled people’s lives in order to tell a romantic story, when it is in fact not romantic at all. ‘Ableist’, if you will. It made me see it in a different light.

I am in Zurich at the moment so I think you could say it is summer here 🙂

  14. Ah “summer” in England just gets worse and worse every year I feel? Especially as I’ve visited two hot countries over the past two weeks, I come back and remember what it’s like to live under constantly grey skies. It’s actually a little bit depressing. Glad you got to see some views though, really cute photos! Hope you can continue utilizing your summer away from uni 🙂
