I’m officially an AWS Community Builder!

If you told me when I joined tech that I would end up getting into Cloud technologies, I would’ve looked at you very confused. 😂 Cloud, what now?

AWS Community Builders

It has been just over a year since I started learning about AWS. In November 2019, I worked towards my first certification – the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner. After getting a taste of what AWS was all about from a high level, I was eager to learn more! Although my first try at the Solutions Architect Associate exam didn’t go as planned, I’m proud that after try number two I managed to clear that one with a better idea of certain services and their use cases.

By this point, I was really into it. AWS and the Cloud, in general, were increasingly becoming an area that I just wanted to learn more about. My final two rotations on my graduate scheme and first “real” tech job as an SRE was dedicated to learning AWS as well as related Cloud-native technologies such as Terraform and Kubernetes.

On the side when ideas are flowing whether that is making old projects better or creating something new from scratch, I’ve always gone back to AWS and looked for solutions! The solutions that I would find would blow my mind – they would speed up my deployment times and make the whole process easier. It just works. 👏🏻

I’ve had the opportunity in my career and from my personal interests to explore the different aspects of AWS. I like to think that I’ve seen the more “SysAdmin”/“Cloud Engineer” POV but also seen it from the perspective of an Engineer who wants to build off of AWS. Fun? Yep, totally. 🎉

This is why when folks from the wider tech community recommended that I check out the AWS Community Builder program, I jumped at the chance. 😁 I’m absolutely thrilled to officially be an AWS Community Builder where I can take my enthusiasm for using and developing on AWS further ☁️

What is the AWS Community Builder program?

Are you curious about what to expect from the program? The official AWS Community Builders page explains it all quite well.

“The AWS Community Builders program offers technical resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to AWS enthusiasts and emerging thought leaders who are passionate about sharing knowledge and connecting with the technical community. Interested AWS builders should apply to the program to build relationships with AWS product teams, AWS Heroes, and the AWS community. Throughout the program, subject matter experts will provide mentorship and share insights, including information about the latest services, as well as best practices for creating technical content, increasing reach, and sharing AWS knowledge across online and in-person communities. The program will accept a limited number of members per year. All AWS builders are welcome and encouraged to apply.”

Asides from all the goodies, swag, and perks, my favorite part of being an AWS Community Builder so far is most definitely the interesting conversations going on all the time on the AWS Community Builders Slack Channel and all the wonderful folks I’ve connected with off the back of that. I’m literally learning from every member of the community with every message, it rocks 🤘🏼

What to expect from your new AWS Community Builder

I’ve written about AWS-specific blog posts and created some AWS videos as part of my AWS SAA learning before so being a Community Builder would allow me to continue doing what I’m doing now with an ever-growing, supportive community. 😊 I’d love to explore doing more demo / tutorial-type content on the various AWS services.

AWS Community Builders swag

My official “track” is in front end and mobile development although as I’ve covered, I’m pretty excited about it all so my content definitely won’t be limited to front end related content. With that said though, have y’all SEEN Amplify recently? Too cool. 😎

Aside from AWS content, I’d love to continue helping out the wider community directly too. If you’ve got a question about AWS, whether that is getting started with the platform or getting your application to run on the Clouds… get in touch! 😃

Do you enjoy working on AWS as much as I do?

Come join the program, you can find out all the information over on the website.

See you in the Clouds, y’all. ☁️
